WHY VOLUNTEER AT THE UXBRIDGE YOUTH CENTRE?
Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and bring a
colourful array of interests and expertise to the UYC. Despite
their differences,
our volunteers
choose to become a part of the
Uxbridge
Youth Centre for the same reasons:
• Our volunteers have a passion for engaging youth and
enhancing the well-being of young people in our community
• Our volunteers want to help shape future leaders in our
community
• Our volunteers have knowledge, experience and skills they
want
to
share with others
• Our volunteers are team players who are looking for an
enjoyable way to give back to the community
• Our volunteers want an experience that is tailored to their
own personal interests and lifestyle
Volunteers are an integral part of our success and the Uxbridge Youth Centre aims to provide a rewarding volunteer experience that with opportunities for growth.
HOW DO VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTE TO THE UXBRIDGE YOUTH CENTRE?
We recognize the value of your time and because of this, the UYC
has created a variety of volunteer options which allow our volunteers
to choose their level of commitment and help out at the Centre as
much as their schedule will allow.
DROP-IN HOURS VOLUNTEER
Drop-In Hours Volunteers typically maintain weekly or bi-weekly
shifts
in which they help on-site UYC staff supervise youth during
drop-in
hours. This volunteer position requires an individual to
be prompt, engaged and accountable for ongoing visits to The UYC
in order to build meaningful relationships with youth. Drop-In
Hours
Volunteers help supervise youth by circulating throughout
The
Centre to ensure that youth are in a safe environment and
are maintaining appropriate behavioural conduct. Other duties
may include: acting
as
chaperones,
helping to organize events,
facilitating workshops
of all kinds and in general getting involved
at the Centre.
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
Looking to earn your community service hours needed to graduate?
The Uxbridge Youth Centre is a great go-to place to find volunteer
opportunities both within the community and at The Centre.
Students can choose to participate at special events, volunteer
during drop-in hours or combine both options.
WORKSHOP AND EVENT FACILITATORS
Have a talent or interest that you believe could make a great
workshop
or event at the Uxbridge Youth Centre? This is a
perfect fit for those who
would like to give back to the
community, but don't have the time to
make a long term
volunteering commitment.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
At the Uxbridge Youth Centre we have a dedicated group of
volunteers that make up our
Board of Directors
. We are
constantly
expanding, adding new faces to our Board
and looking for more and more ways
to improve the
quality
and effectiveness of the Uxbridge
Youth Centre.
COURT ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE
The UYC also accepts individuals who need a place to
complete their court ordered community service, provided
their offense is minor and not of a violent or sexual nature.
Court Ordered Community service involved selected
offenders who are required to complete a designated
number of community service hours as a diversion to
stay out of the court system. The UYC typically extends
this opportunity to youth and adult offenders who have minor
offenses such as vandalism, shoplifting and bylaw infractions.
This provides an opportunity for offenders to contriubte to the
community in a positive and meaningful way in an attempt
to make amends for their misdemeanour. Although not
volunteers by definition, The UYC hopes that by the end of
the position, they will have come to appreciate having been
a part of The Centre and see out volunteer opportunities
in the future.
